Taiko Drummers

TAIKO DRUMMERS are an ensemble of premiere Taiko performers dedicated to promoting and advancing the art of Taiko in America through public performances, education, and outreach. TaikoProject was founded in 2000 in Los Angeles, with the idea of bringing together the best young Taiko players in North America to create an innovative art form by incorporating the unconventional elements of storytelling, hip hop, and dance. In the Fall of 2005, the TaikoProject traveled to Japan to represent American Taiko at the 4th Annual Tokyo International Taiko Contest. As one of 12 finalists out of more than 60 groups, TaikoProject made history when they took home the top prize, First Place, in the Adult Group category. Since then the group has toured internationally, as well as made numerous TV and film performances.
